Should I open my windows?
Better not.
1-hr PM2.5 is 72 µg/m³ at its highest, in the Elevated band. Keep windows closed for now and check again in an hour. Readings change quickly during haze.

Should I run my aircon during haze?
Yes. Close your windows and doors first, so the aircon cools the air already inside.
- Most home split units cool and recirculate indoor air. They don't pull air in from outside.
- The filter catches dust, but it isn't made to remove fine PM2.5. An air purifier with a HEPA filter is the usual choice for that.
- Dust builds up in the filter and coils over time. A clean filter keeps the unit cooling well.
For today: PM2.5 is Elevated, so keep windows closed for now and check the filter once it settles.
Why does my home smell smoky?
Haze smoke drifts in through open windows and gaps, and the smell clings to soft things: sofas, curtains, cushions and bedding.
How to get the smell out
- 1Wait until the 1-hr PM2.5 is back in the Normal band, then open the windows to air out the home.
- 2Wash bedsheets, pillow cases and cushion covers.
- 3Vacuum the sofa, mattress and curtains, then wipe hard surfaces with a damp cloth.
- 4If the sofa or curtains still smell, a deep clean usually sorts it out.
What should I clean after the haze?
Start where haze dust settles most: near windows, and anything that moves air.

What do the PSI and PM2.5 numbers mean?
NEA reports two numbers. The 24-hr PSI shows overall air quality over the past day. The 1-hr PM2.5 shows fine particles right now, so it is the better guide for opening windows.
